Pre-Operative
Surgery & Hospital Stay
Step 1
ENQUIRY STAGE
- GP referral.
- Initial consult with surgeon.
- Meet and greet dietitian, nurse practitioner and/or bariatric liaison.
Step 2
DECISION STAGE
- Review consultation with Mr Atalla.
- Initial preop nutrition appointment with dietitian.
- Date for surgery scheduled, pathology tests and/or further screening requested.
Step 3
PRE-SURGERY
- Final review with surgeon prior to surgery.
- Preoperative diet commenced.
- Consents signed and payment finalised.
Step 4
DAY OF SURGERY
Mr. Atalla will perform your surgery today. You will be monitored closely and discharged when ready.
Step 5
HOSPITAL STAY
Expected hospital stay 1 – 2 nights. Remember to take the Optifast or Formulite with you as it is part of your nutritional intake as an inpatient.
Post-Operative
Ongoing Care
WEEK 1-2
- Mr Atalla will review you post operatively.
- Our bariatric liaison and practice nurse will contact you to check in and monitor your progress.
WEEK 4-5
- Dietitian post operative review
3 MONTHS
- Post operative review with Mr Atalla.
- Post operative review with practice nurse.
6 MONTHS
- Dietitian post operative review
12 MONTHS
- Mr Atalla will review you on your anniversary date.
- You start to feel healthier as the lifestyle and dietary changes you initiated become routine.
LIFELONG
- Nutrition and dietary intake will be monitored by our dietitian.
- Vitamin and mineral levels will be checked through routine blood tests organised by our practice nurse.
